Description

This walking taco casserole combines all the flavors of your favorite tacos in a layered, baked dish with savory ground meat, melted cheese, and crunchy tortilla chips. Perfect for family dinners or potlucks!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey/chicken)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 cups tortilla chips, crushed
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (optional, for topping)
  • 1/2 cup salsa (optional, for topping)
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional, for topping)
  • 1/4 cup chopped tomatoes (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in taco seasoning and water, simmer for 3-5 minutes until well combined.
  • In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer the crushed tortilla chips.
  • Spread the seasoned beef evenly over the chips, then sprinkle with shredded cheese.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Add optional toppings like sour cream, salsa, green onions, and tomatoes. Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • For added creaminess, layer refried beans between the chips and meat.
  • Customize toppings based on your preferences, such as adding guacamole or jalapeños.
